How to Use the Pace Calculator

  1. Choose which value you want to find: pace, time or distance.
  2. Fill in the other two fields in any unit combination.
  3. Read your result along with predicted finish times for standard race distances.

Formulas Used

Pace = time / distance (min per km or min per mile)

Time = pace × distance

Distance = time / pace

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good running pace?

It depends on experience and distance. Recreational runners commonly average 6:00-7:30 min/km (9:40-12:00 min/mile); beginners often start slower and that is completely fine.

How does the Riegel formula predict race times?

It scales a known performance by distance raised to the power 1.06, capturing the fact that fatigue grows faster than distance. It works well between neighbouring distances.

Should I run even splits?

Even or slightly negative splits are usually fastest for beginners. Starting faster than target pace burns glycogen early and typically slows the final third of a race.
